Barbara I. Jones

Barbara Irene Jones, 80, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on June 19, 2026. She was born on October 20, 1945 in Tuscola, Illinois to the late B.T. and Tacy (Henegar) Stevens. She is survived by her son and daughter in law: Steve (Angie) Jones, two granddaughters: Megan and Carlie Jones, five great-grandchildren: Trendon, Tavin, Talent, Kasey and Ahriyah, one great-great granddaughter Talia. Other survivors include two sisters and brother in law: Marjorie (Ken) Hoedebecke of Charleston, Illinois and Vicki Stevens of Osceola, Indiana, a brother and sister in law: John (Cindy) Stevens of Rockford, Illinois, her nephews Keith (Beth) Stevens, Eric Hoedebecke, Jeff (Beth) Hoedebecke, her nieces Kate (Bernt) Greene, Kelly Faust, Elsa (Laren) Zeller, many great-nieces and great nephews and extended family and friends.

Barbara graduated from Champaign Central High School. She worked for the Champaign Courier and then Christie Clinic. After pursuing her nursing degree she served tirelessly as a nurse manager at Champaign County Nursing home and then as a coordinator at Helia Nursing Facility. Her dedication to the residents was unwavering. The stories are never-ending.

Within the past year, she returned to southern Missouri, a place close to her heart, to be near her son. Reconnecting with lifelong friends, enjoying the peacefulness of the front porch, and relaxing at the family property.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving daughter Kristen Jones and her sister Janet (Stevens) McCarthy.

According to her wishes, cremation rites will be accorded. A celebration of her life will be held at a later date.
