God entrusted our family with a precious blessing when Cooper Jerryn Backues was born on September 9, 2014 to Brookelyn Cooper and Seth Backues. He touched countless lives with his quiet strength and joyful spirit until he was called to Heaven on Monday, February 3, 2026.
Despite profound physical challenges and given prognosis of only a few years, Cooper surpassed every expectation and lived eleven meaningful years surrounded by love, resilience, and joy.
Cooper was preceded in death by his father, Seth Backues, great-grandfather Jerry Menz, great-grandparents Junior & Cleeda Wilbanks, and James Lee. Those left to honor his life and carry forward his memory include those who loved him most- his mother, Brookelyn Cooper and younger siblings Rynlee, Lenora, and Caney along with his grandparents Brad & Rachel Cooper and Jackie & Darrell Lee, his aunts and uncles Maddison & Nathan Conner, Noah & Erica Lee, Stetson & Tabitha Lee, Li McDonald, Danny & Bryleigh Cooper, Chance Bryson, Kylie Sullins, Brayden Grammar and Chance Grammar, great-grandparents Jerry & Judy Cooper, Acleda Menz and Delaina Lee, Joyce Grammar and Michael Sullins, and several cousins and a huge extended family.
Cooper reminded us daily that the measure of a life is not its length but its depth and is lovingly remembered by all those whose lives were shaped by his courage, gentleness, and unwavering spirit. While we take comfort in the promise of God's eternal care and the hope of reunion in heaven, our hearts grieve deeply the loss of a son and brother who was cherished beyond words. We are brought peace by our faith that Cooper is now healed and whole in the Lord’s name. His heavenly body is no longer burdened by the many ailments that he faced on this earth. We hold dear to the Lord's promise of once again seeing our beautiful Cooper. To know him was to know a true Angel, a pure soul untouched by the impurities of this earth. We were changed by loving him, and we will carry both the joy of his life and the pain of his loss for the rest of our lives.
