Danny Hawkins was born November 17, 1947 to Claude and Bonnie (Huskey) Hawkins at the Huskey Farm. He passed away June 19, 2025 at his home in Hartshorn, surrounded by his loving family.
Danny’s childhood was full of adventure on Black Valley, where he roamed the hills having a big time with his brothers, sister Sandy, along with the Barnes and Smith boys. He loved sharing stories of their wild escapades. The one that brought so much laughter was when he shot his dad in the back with a BB gun, boys scattered and he faced the wrath of Pop!
After high school, Danny headed to St. Louis and began working for General Motors, and was working at their Bowling Green plant when he retired. He also faithfully served six years in the Air National Guard. He couldn’t wait to move back home after retirement. Even when he returned home, he never tired of working; he worked for the Park Service, Vaughn Ready Mix, Conservation Department, and the Highway Department.
Before he retired, he met Gale which was a date encouraged by his mother. They were married in 1990 and built a life together along with their 3 children, Sean, Mary and Dan.
Danny had many hobbies, including restoring Corvettes, cooking and horseback riding. But more than anything, he loved Friday nights spent in the neighborhood with his brothers and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Claude; brother, Tom Hawkins; Granny Pearl; mother-in-law, Lois Smith; nephew Johnny Hawkins; great-nephew, Trey Fiske; sisters-in-law, Loretta, Brenda and Val.
Danny is survived by his wife, Gale and their five beloved cats, Molly, Tiny Cat, Possum, Willie and Kitten of the home; son, Sean Hawkins (Jennifer) of Florida; daughter, Mary Lee (Shawn); son, Dan Cooley; grandchildren, Carrie Russell (Brandon), Adam Morgan (Jacy), Braelyn and Meyah Lee, and Daisy Cooley; great-grandchildren, Charlotte and Kallum Russell and Berlyn Morgan; his mother, Bonnie Ament; brothers, Roger Hawkins, Gary Hawkins (Debra), Robin Hawkins (Carol); sister, Sandy Hawkins; sister-in-law, Devie Hawkins; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends, all too many to name.
Danny was the oldest of the Hawkins Crew and his presence will be deeply missed in the years to come. But we can take comfort in the stories he shared and the memories we’ll always hold close in our hearts.
P.S. Always mow your grass on Thursday and have spaghetti once a week!
