Dexter Lee Brown Jr. was born October 5, 1943 in Greenville, South Carolina to Dexter Brown Sr and Annie Bell (Prince) Brown. He passed away October 19, 2020 at Cox South Medical Center in Springfield, Missouri at the age of 77.
Dexter grew up in Greenville and graduated from Parker High School in 1959. During high school, he played football and became a certified plumber and electrician. Following high school, he joined the US Navy where he served for 4 years on the Underwater Demolition Team. After his faithful service to his country, Dexter became certified in automotive transmission repair and diesel mechanics. He loved to work on engines including Cummins, Detroit, Caterpillar, Perkins and Kabul. He was also a certified welder, both above and underwater. Dexter was a truck driver, iron worker and was self-employed as a mechanic.
Dexter was married to Judy Mathews in 1960, Gladys Schafer in 1969 and to Sharon (Bryant) Brown on June 27, 1990 with whom he spent the last 30 plus years with. Health issues forced him to retire in 2004 and he and Sharon moved to Summersville in 2006 where they ran a gift shop.
He was saved and baptized in 1956 at the Grace Baptist Church in South Carolina. He later became a member of the Summersville Baptist Church. Dexter was also a master mason and 32 nd degree Shriner and had received his 40 year pin. He was also a Moose Lodge Member.
Dexter was preceded in death by his parents, Dexter Sr. and Annie Bell Brown, sisters, Geraldine Brown, Mary Anne Willis and Nancy Lee Moser.
He is survived by his wife, Sharon; sisters, Betty Hudgens and Cathy Jean brothers as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Dexter will be dearly missed by all that knew and loved him.
