Donald Dwayne Fiske was born July 11, 1934 in Hayden, Colorado to John Fiske Sr. and Roberta (Ackerman) Fiske. He passed away at Cox medical hospital on December 27, 2019.
Don grew up in the mountains of Colorado with his parents and 4 brothers. He had a love for reading and said that he has read hundreds of books over his life. Don also was very knowledge about American and World History (there was nothing he couldn’t tell you about History). When Don attended school he rode a horse to and from school each day, then due to the distance and difficulty in getting to school, Don only completed the 8 th grade. But he continued to learn as he read and studied his younger brothers’ history and school books. As a young man he worked as a wheat farmer and for the Colorado Highway Department. He then moved with his parents and 3 brothers to Missouri to be near his brother Tom and his family, and it was here, in Summersville Missouri, that he lived the remainder of his life. Don was a hardworking man and loved working in the log woods with his brothers and nephews. He often said some of his most memorable times was working alongside his brothers and their sons and son-in-laws in the log woods. He was so proud that for many years Fiske Brothers Logging was one of the biggest logging crews in the area. Upon retiring from the log woods Don enjoyed helping out in the family gas station getting to see and visit with many people in town, most of them affectionately called him “Uncle Don!”
On February 7, 1988 Don flew to the Philippines and married the love of his life, Evangelina (Helen) Dungog, and to this union one infant son Donald Fiske Jr. was born asleep. Don loved his wife and family very much, he was especially close to his brothers and their children. He had a host of nieces and nephews that he cherished and loved as if they were his own. Upon marrying Helen, Don gained even more nieces and nephews that he loved very much. During the last several years Don has enjoyed spending time with his devoted wife Helen, while continuing to read books and watch the news channel.
Don and Helen had some wonderful times while on vacation abroad to London and Ireland. It was in Ireland that he found the Original Fiske Family Home place. His love of history made this trip a dream come true. He also was able to enjoy a memorable cruise to the Bahamas with Helen and niece Deanna.
Don is preceded in death by his infant son, Donald Fiske Jr, his parents John and Roberta Fiske, two brothers Tom and Johnny Fiske, one sister Darlene Thacker and one infant sister. He is survived by his wife Helen of the home, two brothers Gene (Beverly) and Jim (Pam) Fiske all of Summersville, two sister-in-laws Cindy and Jeannie Fiske, and one brother-in-law Steve Thacker, and a large number of nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews. He will be missed by all that knew and loved him.
