Summersville

The family respectfully requests, in lieu of flowers that donations be made to the Dorothy Conner memorial fund in care of Bradford Funeral Home.

Dorothy Conner, was born July 24, 1937 to Fonce and Maudie (Cooper) Conner at Flat Rock, Missouri.  She passed away March 20, 2021 in Summersville, Missouri at the age of 83.

Dorothy spent most of her life in and around Summersville.  She was 1 of 11 children and was always eager to go with her sisters and brothers and other relatives.  While growing up she helped with the garden and other chores as well as taking care of her younger siblings.  Dorothy walked everywhere she went, even after having her children, she walked up until her health didn’t allow it anymore.  She worked for a while at Brown Shoe in Houston and was always willing to help anyone when she could.  Dorothy spent a lot of time with Mrs. Francis Roots.

She loved to grow things in the garden and flowers.  You would catch her and Cheryl picking up walnuts in the fall or just riding around.  She enjoyed going to all the fireworks shows and Christmas parades.  She attended all the family gatherings at the river.  Dorothy also made several trips to Georgia to visit family, out to Oregon to see her daughter and to Illinois to visit cousins.  Most of all she loved her animals especially her dogs.  She even had a horse or two she got from Merle Smith when the children were young.  She also loved to go to Frankie’s store in Hartshorn to catch up on all the area news.

Her last few years were spent at her sister Joyce’s and niece Leigh’s and surrounded by her great-nieces and nephews and she would be the first to tell you that the kids drove her crazy all the time.  Dorothy never really liked change much either and would be sure to ask things such as “why did you have to move the chair” and would also let you know that you were supposed to put the dishes back in the same place all the time!

She was preceded in death by her parents, Fonce and Maudie Conner; her siblings, Eunice Martin, Genny Atchison, Georgia Atchison, Peral Jinks, Truman Conner, Allen Conner, Albert Conner and an infant brother and infant sister; also by her adopted grandson, Skyler Chretien and grandson Cory Demmick and also a grandson Jerry Rice Jr. in 1988.

Dorothy is survived by her sister, Joyce Grammar of Summersville, MO; her children, Doyle of Eminence, MO, Brenda and husband Jerry of Sweet Home, Oregon and John and wife Christine of Colorado; 6 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.  She knew everyone around and could tell you all their names up until the last day.  Her family and all that knew her will miss her dearly.
