Douglas H. Lewis, loving husband, father, grandpa, uncle and friend passed away July 11, 2021 at Mercy St. Francis hospital in Mountain View, Missouri surrounded by his loving wife and children at the age of 77. He was born February 16, 1944 in Timber, Missouri to Lotus and Willa (Patterson) Lewis.
Upon graduating high school, Doug served in the United States Army from 1968 to 1970. After being honorably discharged from the Army, he began working in the timber industry in Washington and Oregon. Following his return to Missouri, he worked as a carpenter. Doug later began his 25 year career with UPS, retiring in 2002.
Doug was happiest outdoors, hunting, fishing, golfing, watching cardinal baseball, spending time at the cabin and being with his family and friends.
He was a very proud papa of his 6 grandchildren, Grant, Matt, Abbi, Tori, Kati and Nick. There were many days Doug spent teaching Grant golf and watching his tournaments, going to Matt’s football games and all of the kids’ softball games.
Doug was preceded in death by his father, Lotus Lewis; mother, Willa Patterson Smith; step-father, Clarence Smith; sister and brother in law, Bill and Norma Thompson; sister and brother in law, Bernice and Laurel Newby; sisters Betty Smith and Rosanne Rupert and sister in law Phyllis Hambelton.
He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Linda; son Chris Bushong and wife Stacey, their 5 children, Matt, Abbi, Tori, Kati and Nick all of Mountain View; daughter Tracy Smith and husband Loren and their son, Grant Smith of Jackson, MO; brothers in law, Don Jones and wife Nicole of Bogalusa, LA and Buddy Jones of Bogalusa, LA, Vance Hambelton of Gainsville, MO; sisters in law, Pamela Ogden and husband Eddie of Gainesville, MO, Jennifer Pingleton and husband Ray of West Plains, brothers in law, Howard Smith of Summersville, MO and Fred Rupert of Hawthorn, NV, and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
Doug will be remembered for his archery skills, banjo picking, teasing jokes and entertaining “Dougisms”. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
