Elzie Dewayne Odom

November 18, 1942 — February 11, 2021

Summersville

Elzie Dewayne Odom, son of Othel and Pauline (Norris) Odom, was born on November 18, 1942 in Summersville, Missouri. He passed away in his home on February 11, 2021 making his age 78.

Elzie was preceded in death by his parents Othel and Pauline Odom, one brother Cleo Odom, and his mother and father in law Sam and Esther Bond.

He is survived by his loving wife Beverly Odom; son Kevin Odom, son Darrin Odom and his wife Christina Odom; six grandchildren, Sarah Duncan, Mikayla Southard and husband Kyle, Ryan Odom and wife Aubrey, Karson Odom, Kaylee Hurst and husband Edmond and Cole Odom; two great-grandchildren, Addalee and Ava Southard; two brothers, Clive Odom and Darrell Odom and wife Sharon Odom.

On July 27, 1963 Elzie married his high school sweetheart Beverly Bond. To this union they were blessed with two sons Kevin and Darrin. Together they raised their boys on their farm in Summersville and shared 58 joyful years of marriage.

Elzie loved working in the woods and did this for many years before starting work at the charcoal plant in Summersville. He earned his retirement after 29 years.

Elzie took pride in growing a garden every year. He always shared his garden’s harvest with family and friends. Over the years he had many different types of animals on his farm. Although he hadn’t had any for a while, pigs were his favorite. Elzie had several cows, however cows were his least favorite. Elzie always had a bright smile, was easy going and had good manners…. until working cows!

Elzie thoroughly enjoyed his grandchildren. Often the grandkids would all plan a sleepover secretly and then ask to come. Grandpa didn’t care how late it was, if they asked for a homemade milkshake he’d make everybody one without a second guess, always including his special ingredient, extra sugar.

Elzie was a faithful Christian and talked about his belief effortlessly. He liked to listen to gospel and bluegrass music and attend church with his wife. His family looks forward to the day they meet again in Heaven.
