Ethel Mae Sykes the daughter of James Albert Riley and Anna McKee Riley was born April 14, 1925 in Hartshorn, Missouri. She entered into Heaven Gates, Sunday, March 25, 2018 while a resident at Mountain Health Care in Mountain View, Missouri, making her age 92 years 11 months and 11 days.
Ethel was united in marriage to John Hayden Sykes. They were blessed with one son George Hayden.
She was a dedicated and faithful member of the Hartshorn Assembly of God Church for many years. She attended church until her health declined and she went to live at Mountain View Health Care. She loved to see her friends and church members when they came to visit.
She retired from Angelica Uniform Factory in 1991. She worked for 34 years and most of that time she was a dispatcher.
She enjoyed her flowers and taking care of her yard, and embroidering. She liked to visit and see her grandchildren, nephews and nieces. She loved to see her family members and other loved ones.
She is preceded in death by her parents, James and Anna Riley, her son George, grandson Johnny Sykes, brothers, Paul, Ralph and Ernest Riley, sisters, Dora Shoults and Florence Briggs, and infant sisters Cora and Myrtle, sister- in-laws Isabelle and Pauline Riley, brother-in-law Lloyd Briggs and Omar Shoults.
Ethel is survived by her daughter-in-law Dorothy Sykes of Hartshorn, grandchildren, Lindsey Sykes of West Plains, Steve Sykes of Louisiana, Alycia Sykes of Summersville, her great grandchildren Hannah, Nakiya, Greyson, Kaidence, Tucker, Hayden and Parker, her best friend Wave Belew’s daughter Marilyn Lampone. She is also survived by her Church family whom she loved and they loved her.
