Ileen Garman Young, daughter of Dennie Brown and Daisy (Woodward) Brown, was born on March 9, 1934, in Xenia, Illinois, and passed away on September 1, 2025, in Houston, Missouri, at the age of 91.
Ileen grew up in Xenia, Illinois, and graduated from Flora High School. She met her husband, Jay Garman, while he was working in Illinois, and they were married soon after. To this union three children were born: Dale, Sue, and Judy.
A devoted homemaker, Ileen loved caring for and cooking for her family. She had a passion for gardening, spending time outdoors, traveling, and shopping for shoes. Most will remember her sitting on the porch with a glass of sweet tea or Pepsi, chatting on the phone and keeping up with the latest happenings in the neighborhood. Ileen was a member of the First Baptist Church in Summersville, where her faith was an important part of her life.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Dennie and Daisy Brown; her husband, Jay Garman; and her brothers Dale, Kenneth, Jim, Jerry, and Charlie.
She is survived by her son Dale (Rose) Garman; daughters Sue (Keith) Phipps, Judy Gluck and bonus daughter Barb Schumacher. She also leaves behind her beloved grandchildren: Jaime (Russ) Grider, Jessi (Jared) Cash, Jayci Dearing, Kylie Dearing, Jay (Stephanie) Dearing, Shaina (Tom) Gluck, and Jason Gluck. Her great-grandchildren include Dalton (Teira) Grider, Jacob Berry, Tyler Berry, Michael Jay Clayton, Melissa Burke, Hayden Dearing, Jayden Dearing, and Gracie Dearing. She was further blessed with great-great-grandchildren Lane and Grant.
Ileen is also survived by sisters-in-law Joyce Brown and Sherry Brown, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends who will miss her dearly.
Donations in Ileen's memory may be made to the Antioch Cemetery.
