Iva Mae Mattison

June 9, 1931 — April 12, 2022

Summersville

Iva Mae (Burks) Mattison was born June 9, 1931 in Hattie, Missouri. She went to be with Jesus April 12, 2022, making her age 90 years, 10 months, and 3 days.

Iva was the daughter of Henry Alfred “Alf” and Lula Mable (Payne) Burks. She was 1 of 19 children. Iva was united in marriage to William “Turner” Mattison on December 19, 1951. To their union 3 children were born, Fred Dewayne, Shirley Ann (Mattison) Brooks, and Jack Turner.

As a child and young adult, Iva attended Arroll Church, then later was a member of Midvale Pentecostal Church. Pastor Emmett Bradford and his wife Beth were lifelong friends, even double dating as teens. In Iva’s final years, she had been a member of Summersville Christian Church.

Iva enjoyed traveling, horse shows, singing and visiting family and friends. She worked hard at the Angelica Factory for 25 years and every summer her and Turner used her vacation pay to take their family on vacation. Prior to working at Angelica, Iva was a teacher for 6 ½ years. She taught in a one room schoolhouse, teaching grades 1-8. Her and Turner raised Akita dogs for more than 10 years.

Iva absolutely loved to cook and bake for her family. She was famously known for her pies. Her children, grands and great grands were her whole world. She was a best friend and mother figure to so many. Iva had a special bond with many of her nieces and nephews, and a special relationship with Beth Ann Jones, Karen Bell and Jeannie Exon. Three of her nieces referred to themselves as her adoptive daughters, Naomi Carr, Debbie Mattison and Judy Hughes.

Iva is preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, her parents and brothers Harry, Thurlo, Earl, Ralph, Raymond, Thurman, Jim and Jackie Burks. Sisters Dorothy and Eva Burks, Reba Leigh, Irene Mattison and Ruth Hightower.

Iva is survived by her 3 children Fred (Sandra) Mattison, Shirley (Ricky) Brooks and Jack Mattison; brothers Alvin and Wilbur Burks; sisters Bonnie Carter, Erma Cassidy and Linda Sue Rose. Grandchildren Mike Wallace, Kevin (Jennifer) Brooks, Brad (Tamrin) Brooks, William “Rocky” Mattison, Ashley Mattison, Crystal (Jason) Rutledge, Amber (Marcus) Martin and Adam Mattison. Great grandchildren Tessa Starbeck, Jacob, Anna, Jada and Trafton Brooks, Ashton Brawley, Kaden Roberts, Zane, Kyah and Ravyn Rutledge, Braden and Blake Wallace, Mya, Alijah, Josian and Maleah Martin. Iva is also survived by a whole host of nieces and nephews which were all very special to her.

Iva was a blessing to her family, wonderful friend and greatly loved by all who knew her. We are comforted by the knowledge that we will be united with Iva again. She will be deeply missed.

Donations to the Summersville Senior Center or the Arroll Cemetery may be made in Iva’s memory and left at the funeral home.
