Listen to Obituary

Jackie Herman Steelman was born April 22, 1954, to Frank Herman Steelman and Betty Jo Norris Steelman in Hartshorn, Missouri. He departed his earthly home December 4, 2025, into the arms of his loving Savior and into the presence of his loved ones gone before.

On December 2, 1971, he met the love of his life Nimmie Ophelia Riddle, and the two were married on his 18th birthday. To this union, they were blessed with six children: Clifford Howard, Clayton Edward, Frank James, Larissa Cheryl, Rebekah Leah and later in life Emily Jewel.

Jack was a man of the woods, providing for his family through the ways God had provided in nature by logging, hunting for game, and collecting roots and herbs to sell. He was also a magnificent gardener, much like his father. He was proud to be a fifth-generation logger and was talented and well-known for his skills in the log woods. Some of his most treasured memories are those in the woods with his father, brothers, sons, and his son-in-law Brad.

Jack gave his life to Jesus in the early 1980s and for several years participated in the ministry at Hartshorn Assembly of God Church. He diligently read his Bible, and the pages were filled with sermon notes and small reminders of the power of God's word.

Jack's family was his priority, and he, along with his beloved wife, created a home that was open to many and served as a refuge for neighbors and children who needed a warm meal, a smiling face, or a hug. Jack was seen many summer days playing games and having bubble gum and head-stand competitions in the yard with his children, grandchildren, and neighbor kids.

Jack is preceded in death by his wife Nimmie; parents Frank and Betty; one sister, Linda Kay; in-laws Bill and Freda Riddle; and his namesake and niece, Jackie Lynn Michel. He is survived by his children Clifford, Clayton and wife Janeen both of Cabool, Frank and wife Lisa of Houston, Larissa and husband Chris of Edgar Springs, Rebekah and husband Brad of Summersville and Emily of Hartshorn; nine grandchildren; Dale, Betty, Kaylea, Jack, Ben, Audrey, Allisyn, Oliver and Henry, and one great-granddaugter Hope, who in his terms was the gem of his heart. He is also survived by his siblings Judy, Gary, Teresa, Melissa and Robert, as well as a host of nieces, nephews and friends who he loved dearly.

Jack will be missed by all who knew him and would want all to know that through the blood of Christ, his Savior, that they can live eternally with him in Heaven.
