James Oswell “Jim” Cook, the son of Shorty and Mildred (Barton) Cook, was born May 31, 1952 in Summersville, Missouri. He passed away at Mercy Hospital in Springfield, Missouri after a long battle with COPD on March 27, 2024 at the age of 71.
Jim was united in marriage to Sharon Tuttle on November 18, 1972 making their years together 51. To this union, one daughter, Jamie was born.
Jim graduated from Summersville High School in 1970. Shortly after graduation, he started working for the Missouri Department of Conservation building radio towers all across the state of Missouri. After getting married he started working in the timber with his brother Jerry cutting cordwood and logging. Later they bought and ran a sawmill together with brothers Bernie, Ernie and Rick. After the sawmill business, Jim went to work for the National Park Service at Alley, Round Springs and Akers doing maintenance and carpenter work. He retired after 14 years in 2013.
Following retirement, Jim’s favorite pastime was spending time at Cook Holler camping, deer and turkey hunting and spending time around the campfire with family and friends.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Shorty and Mildred Cook; a brother, Ernie Cook; mother and father-in-law, Delmer and Ruth Tuttle; brother-in-law, Don Tuttle and sister-in-law, Sharon Cook.
Jim is survived by his wife Sharon of Hartshorn; daughter Jamie Schatz and grandsons, Turner and Tucker Schatz all of Springfield; brothers, Jerry and wife Susan and Bernie and wife Bonnie of Hartshorn and Rick and wife Vi of Summersville; sisters-in-law, Karen and husband Mike McAdams of Ozark, Barb Tuttle of Summersville, and Debbie Cook of Branson; brothers-in-law, Ron and wife Cathy Tuttle and Gary and wife Candy Tuttle all of Summersville; as well as many special nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews, cousins other family members and friends. He will be missed.
