On July 8, 2023, Kathy Smith of Summersville, Missouri, passed away peacefully in her sleep at age 75, surrounded by her family, after a brief illness. Mamie Kathryn (Duncan) Smith, the daughter of W.H. “Bill” Duncan and Bonnie Evelyn Terrill was born January 15, 1948, in Morton, Washington and passed away at Mercy Hospital in Springfield, Missouri on July 8, 2023, making her age 75 years 5 months and 24 days. Kathy was united in marriage to Adrain Duane Smith on July 15, 1967. To this union 2 children were born. Tracey Lea in 1968 and Stacey Lynn in 1972.

Kathy spent the early years of her life in northern California where her father worked in the log woods. They moved a lot and spent some time in Washington, Wyoming, Colorado, New Mexico and finally Missouri in St. Louis and Summersville. She accepted Jesus Christ as her savior at an early age and was baptized. Kathy attended school at Summersville elementary and met Duane when he came to Summersville in the 9th grade from the Arroll schoolhouse. They dated throughout high school and were married a year after graduation. A year later Tracey was born then 3 and a half years later, Stacey. Kathy worked at various jobs through the years while Duane milked cows. She spent a little time at Angelica factory and later cooked at the Bowling Alley Restaurant in Mountain View and at Bunker Hill. She worked at Pineview Christian Home for several years and later at Mountain View Fab. She enjoyed all her jobs and made lots of friends along the way.

Kathy had various hobbies including crochet, quilting, cooking, cake decorating, painting, and crafting. She was very creative and could make about anything you asked her to if you showed her a picture of it. She enjoyed going to field trials and truck pulls with Duane as well as deer season. She read lots of books of all kinds and watched lots of movies. In her later years, her greatest joy came from keeping up with all her grandchildren and great grandchildren and their various endeavors. She was more than happy to be in the background, cheering her family on.

Preceding Kathy in death are her father Bill Duncan, mother, Bonnie Duncan, father-in-law Adrain Smith, mother-in-law Ilene Smith, brothers-in-law Darrell Smith and Bob Ivie, sister-in-law Sherry Smith and nephew Brad Ivie.  Left behind to grieve are her husband of 56 years, Duane Smith, daughter Tracey Thomas and partner Willie McClain, daughter Stacey Bushong and husband Chris, brothers Billy Duncan and wife Carolyn, David Duncan, Tom Duncan and wife Brenda, sister-in-law Beverly Ivie, grandchildren Danny Thomas and wife Stefanie, Kacey Blunk and husband Scott, and Matthew, Abigail, Nicholas, Kathryn, and Victoria Bushong. Kathy did not get out much socially, preferring instead to be at home spending time with her family. For those who knew her she was a joy to be around, brightening the room with her smile and laughter and sense of humor. She leaves a void that will never be filled in our hearts. She will be greatly missed.
