Marvin Douglas Wilkins

May 27, 1942 — September 8, 2021

Summersville

Marvin Douglas Wilkins was born May 27, 1942 at Black Pond, Missouri to Vernon and Mabel (Dyer) Wilkins.  He passed away on September 8, 2021 at his home surrounded by his family.

Marvin attended Eminence Schools for most of his school years and moved his junior year to Summersville High School where he graduated in 1960.

He served his country in the United States Army during the early years of Vietnam from February 13, 1964 and was honorably discharged on November 30, 1965.

Marvin accepted the Lord as his saviour as a young man and attended Church wherever he lived.  Later he attended Grace Baptist Church and worked in the Church many years.

He married Marilyn (Michel) Wilkins on March 20, 1981 and they were blessed with 4 children, Steve Wilkins, Alison Jewett Haveman, Sam Jewett and Vernon Wilkins.

Marvin sold hardware 40 years for Orgill, Inc. out of Memphis, Tennessee.  He enjoyed his calls on the dealers and considered them family as the years went by.

He enjoyed hunting, camping, horseback riding and floating in his early years and later working on the farm with family.  He liked to cut and haul wood for the furnaces on Thanksgiving and Christmas Day much to his kids’ dismay.  He loved going to auctions and finding bargains, antiques and collectibles.  He also collected coin bank cars and coin bank airplanes and had a large collection of the coin bank cars.

Marvin enjoyed people and visiting with them.  He enjoyed going to Branson to watch shows and listen to bluegrass music.  He often attended the bluegrass show on Saturday nights at the Summersville VFW.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Vernon and Mabel (Dyer) Wilkins.

Marvin is survived by his wife, Marilyn Wilkins of the home; children, Steve Wilkins, Alison Jewett Haveman, Sam Jewett and wife Melinda and Vernon Wilkins; grandchildren, Damian Goodman, Randall Goodman, Montana Goodman, William Wilkins, Claire Jewett, Emily Jewett, Olivia Kate Jewett and one great-grandson, Blake Wilkins and one sister Cleta Barnes.  He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
