Melvin Lavern Young the son of Fred and Mabel Young was born June 26, 1943 in Summersville, Missouri. Vern passed away at his home in Houston, Missouri on Thursday Morning, making his age 74 years 7 months and 13 days.
He was united in marriage to Linda Morton on August 25, 1990 making their union together 27 years. They were blessed with 3 sons, Paul Melvin Young, Danny Lavern Young and Bradley Shane White.
Vern joined the United States Air Force in January 1965 and was stationed Wethersfield, England, where he served as a parachute rigger. After his tours of duty in the United States Air Force, Vern joined the Army Reserves and served many weekends doing what ever they needed him to do. He was very patriotic and proud of his service to his country.
He retired from Union Pacific Railroad where he worked as a mechanic. Vern loved to help others mechanic, and fix the impossible.
Vern is preceded in death by his parents Fred and Mabel, three brothers, Roy Young, Fred Allen Young, Elmer Dewayne Young and one sister Grace Riegle.
He is survived by his wife Linda Young of Houston, Missouri, sons, Danny Lavern Young of St. Charles, Missouri, Paul Melvin Young of Wright City, Missouri and Bradley Shane White of Eminence, Missouri, grandchildren Dalton White and wife Becca of Summersville, Missouri, Devon White of Norfork, Virginia, Denton White and Savanna of Summersville, and Maive Alexys White of Eminence, great grandchildren Kolby White and Brooklyn White of Summersville, sisters, Ruth Bell Summersville, Missouri, Bonnie Radtke of Rolling Meadow, Illinois, Eunice Young of Houston, Missouri, Shirley Ireland of St. Charles, Missouri and Ruby Diesel of Springfield, Missouri and one brother Larry Young and wife Yvonne of Oakland, Arkansas, and a host of nieces, nephews and other family members. We would like recognize our niece Sherry Hughes, and her grandson Logan who helped to care for Vern in his last days.
