Nova Dean Smith

Nova Dean (Brooks) Smith, the daughter of James and Ruth (Hartman) Brooks, was born November 20, 1935 at Summersville, Missouri. She passed away at Mercy Hospital in Springfield, Missouri on April 24, 2020 at the age of 84.

Nova Dean was united in marriage to Charles Franklin Smith on March 29, 1960 in Lafayette, Georgia, where Charles was stationed with the United States Air Force at the time. They were blessed with four children, Jimmie, Leveda, Janet and Kadra.

Nova Dean attended the First Church of God in Summersville. She also loved to spend time at the Summersville Senior Center playing bingo and visiting with her friends there. Nova Dean also enjoyed sewing, crafting and oil painting. She also loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Ruth Brooks; her husband Charles; a daugher, Kadra; two grandsons, Joshua Proffitt and Keith Thompson as well as two brothers, Marvin and Orville Brooks.

Nova Dean is survived by her son Jimmie Dean Wood and his wife Jamie; a daughter, Leveda Thompson and her husband Harley; a daughter Janet George and her husband Paul; grandchildren, Joseph Engh and wife Samantha, Jimmie Dean Wood and wife Ginger, Jeremiah Wood, Jessica Wood, Daniel Harp and wife Amber, Danielle Harp, Valerie Whitehead and her husband Chris, Kelly Thompson-Davis and spouse Curtis, Jodi Grimes and husband Jeremy and Jenna Lyons and husband Timmy as well as many great-grandchildren; two sisters, Pauline Brooks and Jimmie Estes as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
