Robert Joshua Vandevort was born to Mon t a Vandevort and Mary Elizabeth Brashear Vandevort in Raymondville, Missouri on December 1 , 1931. Bob passed away after a lengthy illness on Sunday morning, May 20 , 2018 while a patient at Texas County Memorial Hospital, making his age 86 years, 6 months and 5 days.
Bob was united in marriage to Berneita (Neita) Downey. They were blessed with 4 children: Patricia Gale, Robert Timothy, Warren Allen and Amie Annette. Later in life he married Mina Johnson, who preceded him in death in 2004.
The Vandevort family lived a short while in Raymondville, Missouri then moving to the Hartshorn area where Bob graduated from Summersville High School. After graduating, he moved away to live in the Independence area where he raised his family. He worked as a maintenance mechanic at General Mills for 50 years before retiring. He returned to his roots in Texas county settling in Cabool, Missouri.
Bob loved to travel, working with and raising his cattle, fishing, visiting his family, and playing with his dog Fritz.
He is preceded in death by his father Monta Vandevort, his mother Mary Elizabeth Vandevort, wife Mina, son Robert Timothy (Tim), sisters, Agnes Smith, Laura Robinson, Sylvia Cook, brother Leo Vandevort, brothers-in-laws Lloyd, Clyde Cook, and Alvie Joe Robinson Sr.
He is survived by his children, Patty Kerr of Springfield, Missouri, Warren Vandevort of Cabool, Missouri, Amie Phillips and husband John of Kingsville, Missouri, his grandchildren, Denise Dowhower and husband Jon of Grain Valley, Missouri, David Dickson and wife Christy of Grain Valley, Missouri, Daniel Dickson and wife Nicole of Naples, Florida, Drake Kerr and wife Randi of Springfield, Missouri, Derek Kerr and wife Shelby of Gardner, Kansas, Chris Vandevort and wife Heather of Odessa, Missouri, Cory Vandevort and wife Jami of Oak Grove, Missouri, Curtis Vandevort of Blue Springs, Missouri, Stetson, Shania and Sterling Phillips of Kingsville, Missouri and 9 great grandchildren. Bob is also survived by one sister, Billy Cook of Hartshorn, Missouri, and one sister-in-law, Bonnie Vandevort of Mountain View, Missouri and a host of nieces, nephews and other family members.
