Listen to Obituary

Sharon Mitchell was born on November 27, 1948 in Eunice, Missouri to Doris Brown and Melvin Shelley. She was called home to Heaven on March 20, 2026 at Mercy Hospital in Springfield, Missouri. Sharon will be missed dearly by those who knew and loved her. She lived a full life, from raising children to keeping up with her husband. Sharon could be ornery with a sense of humor that not many understood. Normally, if she wasn’t giving you a little crap, well, she didn’t like you.

As a young girl, Sharon took care of her little sister Sue due to her mother being hospitalized and her father working nights. When Sharon and her sister would visit from St. Louis, she enjoyed going to the roller rink and driving around. She also liked to attend the fair when it came to town.

Sharon’s father owned a service station where Melvin Mitchell got a job. It wasn’t long after that she found herself marrying Mr. Mitchell on December 12, 1965. To their union, one son was born, Michael Mitchell.

Sharon enjoyed going to the boats to gamble. She spent many hours gardening, and she loved her flowers. When she was in her 40s, she decided to return to school to start her nursing career. She completed college and obtained her LPN license.

Sharon and Melvin also raised three granddaughters, Macie, Mikayla and Madison. She was a kind, loving and strong woman. When it came to giving the girls a good life, she had no limit.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Melvin Shelley and Doris Cornell; her husband, Melvin Mitchell; a granddaughter, Mariah Mitchell; and many aunts and uncles.

Sharon is survived by her son, Michael Mitchell; three granddaughters, Macie, Mikayla and Madison Mitchell; a handful of great-grandchildren and her sister, Brenda Mooney. She held all of them very dearly and close to her heart.

Though you are gone, you will never be forgotten. For us kids, you will always be with us. Whether it is the wind that blows by, the flowers blooming nearby or just the cranky thunderstorm rolling in. The memories we hold will never cut us short of a smile or the feeling of your unconditional love.
